Miguel Estrada

Well, Ms. Harriet Miers has withdrawn and fate has handed President Bush yet another opportunity to do the right thing. At the risk of sounding repetitive, I will again say that the President's best choice to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court is Miguel Estrada. I hope Mr. Bush will listen to conservatives this time and nominate Mr. Estrada, a man widely recognized as one of the best constitutional lawyers in the country.

I think he will again nominate a woman; there is intense pressure to keep the "gender" balance which may not lead to the best candidate.

As I have said before in this space, Miguel Estrada would be an excellent choice for the Sup Ct.

In regards to the "gender" question raised by the previous contributer, it would be trumped by the appointment of the first "Hispanic" nominee because the media loves this identity politics stuff.

Although, the media downplays the first hispanic attorney general and first black female secretary of state when they are Republicans.

I also prefer Estrada because he is
like 45 years old. But Bush just
doesn't want a big fight. It would have
been an in-your-face type thing, because
Estrada was filibustered, and because
of the democrat commitee memo.
